The Globe Cafe - South Perth

My 13 year old son and I attempted to have breakfast at The Globe again this morning... well he ate breakfast, I just sat at their impossibly small table trying to read the newspaper and attempting to drink their insufferable coffee. I should have known better, I have always found the Globe to be over priced and their coffee is hardly worth the space on their small tables (as I commented to the manager, I get better and cheaper food in the city and South Perth is somewhat "out in the bush"), but at least its near my son's school, so he can walk to school after his bacon and egg toasted sandwich.

The real success story this morning was, yet again, Il Circolo. Having wished I had simply made the kid breakfast, I ate nothing at The Globe and headed for civilisation in North Perth. Walking up to the counter, the waitress greeted me warmly and I gladly ordered eggs on toast for under $10. These are some of the best eggs on toast in town and affordable! Another great breakfast to start the day.

Breakfast at The Suite - Subiaco

Unusually, I was up early this morning and soon joined by fantastic company to "go for breakfast". Where to go? We started off and as we were heading north over the narrows bridge, a plan started to form in my mind... Subiaco. As we cruised down Hay Street and then up Rokeby Road, I considered The Witch's Cauldron. "Always a good breakfast on weekends" I commented to my friend, but kept driving. My friend noted that there was surprisingly not much available in Subi for breakfast on a Sunday. It was then that I remembered The Suite on Nicholson Road (just near the corner of Derby Road).

The buzz was apparent from the moment we walked through the door. People everywhere sitting on stools, chairs and lounge suites, obviously a popular choice for breakfast. It was so busy, the owner was working the floor. We were directed towards a small table, with even smaller stools (I felt like I was back in Kindy - in fact, probably more like high school, there was some 13 year old squeezed in behind me elbowing me in the back), there was no service (I think maybe they were short staffed), so I went to the counter to order our eggs benedict and coffees.

After very little time, we were served our coffees, which were just perfect and soon after our breakfast. The eggs were perfectly runny and and the bearnaise sauce was lemony - YUM.

Highly recommended for a change, but is not comfortable enough for an everyday breakfast.

Breakfast at Il Circolo - North Perth

This morning I found a fantastic breakfast cafe in North Perth. From the moment I walked in the door it was perfect - well almost perfect, the tables are too small and the chairs too uncomfortable, but this was made up for with friendly, happy, genuine service; relaxed atmosphere (not too busy to be too loud - I'm so not a morning person) and some good food. There is help yourself water and a cute waitress behind the counter to take your order - only I couldn't find the breakfast menu... it was pointed out to me that it was written on blackboards that sat on the ground (great, except I'm standing at the counter and not looking at my feet). The cute waitress suggested that I had the bacon and eggs on toast (I thought for $12.50 they looked great value).

Some of the best bacon and eggs on toast that I have tried anywhere in Perth... bread was italian and drizzled with olive oil, the bacon was perfect and the eggs were between hard and runny... all on a plate big enough to eat the meal.

AWESOME food, great service, perfect for a spot of brekky!

Thai Gourmet Cafe

Today, I slipped into Northbridge and ate at the Thai Gourmet Cafe on William Street. This Thai cafe is always reliable for fantastic tasting Thai food, genuine, but patchy service and typical of an Asian restaurant - the table isn't served as a whole, but food is brought out separately. Today I enjoyed the Pad Thai with prawns for $14.50 and my lunch mate enjoyed the Pad Thai with chicken. Both dishes were served in appropriate oval bowls, but we did have to ask for chop sticks (a must for eating any noodle dish).

Verdict: 5 star food, amature service, clean presentation, appropriate crockery and pleasant fresh environment, without being too noisy. All in all, a fantastic cafe to enjoy Thai food at very reasonable prices.

The Begining

Do you eat out often? Are you always discussing Perth's restaurants and bars with friends? I have found fantastic restaurants and some not so fantastic restaurants around our beautiful city and I have been disappointed in reviewers, who write great reviews about good restaurants, but then fail to bag bad restaurants. My lifestyle is such that I eat out for breakfast and lunch 7 days a week, often in some amazing cafes. I also have the pleasure of eating at some of Perth's best restaurants for dinner during the week, either with my teenage son or on a date with one of Perth's most beautiful women. I look forward to bringing you interesting and factual reviews every few days.
